Farm Stand Manager

 

Position Type:

  • ​Full or part time seasonal

  • 30-40 hours/week April–November

 

Compensation:

  • $17/hour, pay is commensurate with experience

  • 10% discount on all produce, including u-pick berries

  • Free produce seconds 

 

Description:

In addition to overseeing the day-to-day farm stand operations, this position plays a large role in promoting the farm’s produce, plants and local products through creative displays, and assists in leading the retail team to provide the best possible experience to all visitors. Our retail team is the face of the farm, and we strive to foster a spirit of collaboration and continuous improvement in our daily work. The mission of our farm stand is to be a consistent local source of high quality, sustainably grown fruits and vegetables and to provide an authentic, community-oriented farm experience through our seasonal u-pick offerings. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of daily farm stand operations

  • Pricing and point-of-sale (POS) management

  • Manages inventory and ordering of local products

  • Creates appealing, full displays of produce and resale products

  • Ensures there is accurate store and road signage for all products

  • Retail staff management - Clearly communicates and delegates priorities to the retail staff. Trains staff in performance of farmstand duties including using the point-of-sale system, setting up displays, maintaining product quality and creating accurate signage

  • Communicates closely with other managers to solve problems and stay up to date on what’s happening on the farm

 

Qualifications:

  • Retail and management experience

  • Understanding of merchandising and marketing strategy

  • Excellent time management skills and consistent attention to detail

  • Passion for local food and agriculture and experience with produce and plants 

  • Flexible, creative, and able to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Ability to take direction, ask for help/clarity, and give/accept constructive feedback

Wash-Pack/Greenhouse Assistant

 

Position Type: 

  • Full-time seasonal, May-September 

  • Flexible start and end dates for students

Compensation: 

  • $17/hour, commensurate with experience

  • 10% discount on farm stand items, includes u-pick berries

  • Free produce seconds 

 

Description

In the spring and early summer, this position will assist in all aspects of greenhouse production including seeding, potting up, watering and caring for all of our vegetable starts and flowers. In the summer, they will help get our vegetables and berries washed, packed, bagged, labeled and ready to be sold through our farm stand and wholesale accounts. They assist in maintaining organization in our walk in coolers and pack wholesale and farm stand orders to set standards. This dynamic position is ideal for someone who is able to multitask and enjoys production work. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates packing and delivery of orders

  • Helps restock the farm stand every day

  • Helps carry out food safety protocols

  • Maintains cooler organization and inventory

  • Coordinates produce donations

  • Works with other managers to reduce waste and improve efficiency

 

Qualifications 

  • Experience working on a vegetable farm (or related industry) is highly preferred

  • Must be able to stay on feet for periods of time and repeatedly lift 40lb cases of produce 

  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail and efficiency

  • Ability to work independently at times

Field Crew Member

Position Type: 

  • Full-time seasonal, April/May- September/October

Compensation: 

  • $18.83/hour

  • 10% discount on farm stand items, includes u-pick berries

  • Free produce seconds

Description

Experience a season of growing berries and vegetables in Vermont, from seed to harvest. From late spring to fall, you’ll participate in the physical act of produce farming with our hardworking team, including transplanting, weeding, harvesting all kinds of produce. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Efficiently planting, weeding, and harvesting a variety of produce 

  • Maintaining produce quality standards in the field

  • Assists with restocking the farm stand and delivers produce to wholesale accounts

 

Qualifications 

  • Experience working on a fruit/vegetable farm (or related industry) is highly preferred

  • This is a highly physical position. You must be able to stay on your feet all day, lift 40lb cases of produce repeatedly, and be willing to work outdoors in all kinds of weather

  • Positive, team-oriented attitude & ability to take constructive feedback

Farm Stand Cashier/Stocker

​

Position Type: 

  • Full-time seasonal, May-September (some flexibility on end dates for students)

  • Weekend availability required

  • Flexible start and end dates for students

Compensation: 

  • $14+/hour , pay is commensurate with retail experience

  • 10% discount on all farm stand items, includes u-pick berries

  • Free produce seconds 

 

Description

 

The farm stand cashier position is best suited to someone who enjoys active counter service and interacting with new people. When they are not helping customers, the farm stand cashiers are making sure the farm’s produce, plants and local products are looking their very best. This is not a desk job; if you enjoy staying on your feet, meeting new folks and singing the praises of locally produced food, this is the job for you. 

 

​Responsibilities: 

  • Helping customers in a friendly manner

  • Use of Square POS system at checkout

  • Creating and maintaining eye-catching produce displays

  • Caring for bedding plants and flowers

  • Keeping the sales floor and checkout areas clean and organized

  • Answering customer questions

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience in a busy retail environment is preferred but not required

  • Agricultural or culinary background is preferred but not required

  • Eagerness to learn about our farm’s products and growing practices, in order to educate customers, answer questions, and offer suggestions

  • Ability to work independently times and also collaborate with others

  • Must be comfortable being on your feet all day and working in an open-air building in all weather

  • Must be able to lift up to 30lb repeatedly
